The residents of Princeton Gardens on Cuba St - a long driveway with 25 houses - are believed to be the only ones affected, but they are not happy about it.

Cherie Stewart, 24, an administration assistant, has left her bags out for two weeks, because she has been hoping the pick-up was just delayed. She says her rubbish bags do not smell, because she uses a compost bin, but her neighbour’s bags have started to attract flies.
“To put it quite plain, it looks ugly,” says Ms Stewart, who has lived in the area for nearly a year. I’m worried about it attracting vermin around my house.”
Although unimpressed, she has not yet contacted Hutt City Council: “I want to see how long it will take for them to buck up their ideas. If it hasn’t been collected by next week I’ll be emailing them.”
Council communications manager Caroline Wakelin encourages anyone having problems with rubbish collection to contact the council. She says the collection problem at Princeton Gardens affected only the back properties, because the rubbish truck had been unable to get past parked cars and playing children.
“This has made contractors wary of driving into the complex,” she says. “I know the driver had spoken to a couple of residents.”
A smaller rubbish truck will be used in future, and Ms Wakelin expects service will be back to normal next week. “We are endeavouring to ensure this does not happen again.”
